INITIAL CHARGE OF BATTERY RECEIVED IN DRY CONDITION.

If the battery is received with the chassis in a dry condition, first examine same and see that all terminals, connections, etc., are properly greased, to prevent corrosion. The most likely places at which corrosion may occur are on the positive terminals of each cell and on the washers (under the terminals) in contact with the top of the battery. Examine these places particularly and if any uncertainty exists about the greasing of these parts, the washers and the corresponding terminal nuts should be removed and given a bath in molten vaseline.

Having ascertained that the parts liable to corrosion are well protected, also that all terminal buts are firmly screwed up, fill each cell carefully with best battery acid of density 1.250 to 3/8" above the top of the plates, taking care not to spill acid on the top of the battery.
