U:W Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY C. BJ. C. PN.{Mr Northey} X766 Thnl/H14.8.24. re. Overheating Troubles on 20-HP Cars in Switzerland. With further reference to the above, we have already passed you copies of the correspondence received from Sales with regard to this matter, pointing out that the Administration had asked us to say definitely what could be done to overcome the very consistent complaints we are receiving of this trouble in certain districts on the Continent. We now attach further memorandum we have received from BJ. reference BJ19/H13.8.24 on this matter, from which you will see that it requires serious and immediate consideration. With regard to the question of sending an official from the Works to study the matter on the spot, we had at first thought of sending our tester Wright, who has had considerable experience on the Continent, but as the overheating trouble has developed into a much more serious matter than was at first anticipated, and as it applies equally to the 40/50 and 20-HP cars, and as BJ. points out we want as much information as possible to help us with the E.A.C. job, we are of the opinion that either Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} or some official appointed by him should now go out and carry out the experiments and investigations required. for 40/50 HP The position is that as far as present instructions are concerned, all we can do is to fit a high compression engine, high speed fan and louvred bonnet, make sure that the engine is running to the best advantage, and that generally there is no obstruction to the cooling system, and these modifications have been made and are being made in certain instances. We have also made a big point of the fact that the car should be driven to the best advantage, as we feel this considerably influences overheating. SPECIAL NOTE This is a matter which requires immediate attention as you will see that BJ. wishes a telegram sent to say when the official in question will be leaving the Works. Thn. | ||
