machine; it is said in the production dept that a high degree of manufacturing accuracy is conducive to noise rather than the reverse.

It is proposed to try the effect of exaggerating the relative staggering of armature slots in relation to the poles in a further machine (C.70) received for noise investigation, by sloping the edges (or trailing edge only) of the pole oppositely to the armature slot slope. Tests reported in AC 73 / 13-IV-26., indicated that the staggering is beneficial progressively up to the amount at present employed (one tooth-slot pitch) and a further improvement may be made by increasing etc.
