EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} is bringing with him to Springfield when he leaves here next week, a complete set of induction pipes, heated throttle, pilot jet etc. I am very anxious that you should give these things a thorough trial.

We believe it is possible to compare this scheme with the standard arrangement you are using, by using sufficiently bad petrol. We recommend that you add paraffin to your worst quality of petrol and try with the heated throttle and without it.

We should also like you to try the pipe with the exhaust pipes off and no heat on because this pipe has been made up with all right angle bends and we have found that the distribution with the pipe cold is quite good, and we can reproduce these results on each pipe. We expect, if you run with wide open throttle at very low speeds for a long time, the exhaust heated throttle will not give any better results than the water heated throttle, in fact, if you run sufficiently long, it may give less good results, but we maintain that under conditions met with on any roads, the exhaust heated throttle gives an advantage. The advantage is especially noticeable when starting an engine up cold, we say that it is possible to start an engine up from cold, get into the seat, and if the engine is run on the hand control throttle for the first ¼ mile instead of the accelerator pedal, the car will develop full power, without popping, immediately. In the same way, if any road condition was ever met that demanded the engine to run at very low speeds full throttle for a long time, if the engine is run on the hand control instead of the accelerator pedal, there will be no trouble whatever with starting up.

We do particularly want you to give this whole arrangement a thorough trial because we believe it will overcome all your troubles, if it does not, then we have been working on the wrong lines.
