us a maximum error of 1% in adjusting the drive of the speedo-meter. Since 1% is only half a mile in fifty, it is considered near enough when the fact is taken into account that slip of the rear road wheels, and wear of tyres may have to be allowed for.

Referring to the gear meshing with the gear shaft, 16 diametral pitchsshould be used. The bush on the pinion shaft which projects back slightly into the gear box, should have a hole drilled in its projecting part to collect oil and form a means of lubricasions.
