Copy to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} KOSO Winch 2006 6th March, 1941. EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}6/ET. Hydraulic Coupling & Engineering Co. Ltd., Fluidrive Works - Worton Road, ISLEWORTH, Middx. For the attention of H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Sinclair Esq. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of 21st February last. I am now able to send you a print of our drawing H.315, giving sufficient details of the couplings in our proposed installation to enable you to say definitely whether it will be possible for you to bolt direct to our pieces. We would like to know, after you have investigated this, what length we should allow between the two faces on the coupling. The coupling at the driven end is intended to cater for out-of-line of the shafts only, and the couplings and bearings at both ends will carry the fluid coupling weight without difficulty. With regard to the duty cycle, the figures I gave you are the most exact that can be given from the information at present available. It can be amplified to the extent of saying that, during the 5 minute interval, the coupling will be rotating freely, i.e. not in a stalled condition, at some 180 r.p.m. The stall speed of 900-950 r.p.m. with the 14.5" coupling will help the getaway slightly as compared with the 865 r.p.m. quoted for the 16.25 coupling, and the 1 1/2% final slip is also rather better than the figure we expected. The improvement shown by your graph, from the original fluid flywheel, is appreciable. Your confirmation that you can match up to our couplings and the length required for your fluid coupling between the two datum faces shown on our drawing H.315, will enable us to carry on with our designs, but it will probably be some time before these are completed. Yours faithfully, | ||
