NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I WEIGHT. X. 8340
X. 3805

I think that we should increase the vigour of our campaign on weight saving on the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I, not that we are very heavy for our engine capacity, but there are definite possibilities, and it would do us an immense amount of good.

It should be realised that neither of our models should be more expensive to make compared with our competitors, and we ought to spend more if we can do so wisely, especially in lightening, and increasing performance. On the latter the Bentley can equal us at low speeds if he gears 15% lower than we do, and owing to power at high speeds he can still equal us at high speeds. The only hope we should have would be silence and smoothness of running, wear, etc. exactly the same as the Hispano position.

Main bearing caps in duralumin are suggested by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}, and ought to be tried, as present designs are very suitable, and the same dies might be used for this metal. The boring would be easier.
