8006 HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.15.3.39. 3.B.50. We have refrained from worrying you about the manufacture of parts as far as possible, because we know the pressure under which the department is working. We would, however, ask you to give us your assistance in getting 3.B.50 ready for France. This car represents the first car of the fully rationalised programme because it is going to be fitted with a cast iron engine. According to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}, we save £80 per car by using this unit over the existing Wraith. The unit you are preparing for this car is B.60 No.4. At the present moment the crankshaft is the tight spot on it, and unless a special effort is made, we believe that we shall not be able to get it for a fortnight, although we expect the car to be available on Monday next. Though we propose to put the engine in the car with its existing head, we would like to fit the modified head P.D.368, before the car goes to France. We should be glad if you would urge this head to the best of your ability. We propose to send the car over with its existing gearbox, and to follow up with one of the all-synchromesh boxes as soon as one is available. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
