Approval and implementation of American Standardisation Sheets Nos. 17, 22, 23, and 24.

BJ. in his memo reference BJ/Py6/D29.11.23, now writes as follows:- "As we informed you, these sheets were returned to America duly signed on the 20th. inst. It was overlooked that before these sheets were returned to America they should have been confirmed by the committee consisting of BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and yourself, as to whether America could incorporate the alterations as proposed, or whether they should hold them up pending further testing at Derby. Will you please let me know as soon as possible whether the Committee can confirm these 4 Standardisation Sheets, otherwise it will be necessary for me to cable America not to bring the alterations into force until they hear further from us." The sheets referred to I believe have already been sent to you, but to assist you in this matter, they cover the following:- 17. Taper valve stem under the head. This matter was originally dealt with by R.{Sir Henry Royce} under American Alteration No. 2520, refer R1/M24.8.23, Sheet 8. This Standardisation Sheet was also finally approved by R.{Sir Henry Royce} in his memo R1/M16.11.23, and BJ. reported that he had returned this sheet to America on 20.11.23. 22. Use Grover washers for frame fitting bolts instead of rivetting. This American standardisation sheet has also been approved by R.{Sir Henry Royce} See R1/M16.11.23. 23. Silchrome No. 1 for exhaust and inlet valves. Also approved by R.{Sir Henry Royce} See R1/M16.11.23. 24. Front Engine Guard. Also approved by R.{Sir Henry Royce} Refer R1/M16.11.23.
