| X206 To Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. For Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ["For" is struck through] Bensport Brake Adjustment. Here are N. Sch's 3748 and 3753 Hand Screw Adjustments on the camshafts of the rear and front brake respectively. On N: Sch. 3748 only a slight additional turning of the camshaft is needed to use this adjustment on an existing car; on N. Sch. 3753, the bearing casting is the same and goes in the same place, but the machining is slightly different. Two alternative types of adjustment are shown (1) in which the clearance is set automatically by the jaws, and (2) in which it is necessary to screw up against the drums and then unscrew a given number of turns (in this case 3 turns) or a gauge could be supplied. We expect No.1. will be preferred for convenience, though it has the disadvantage that should the pull off springs inside the brake drum fail to return the shows, the assistance that can be given by the pull off spring on the axle is limited to the load of the locking spring. There is a margin for increasing this load if needed.
