Litcham, Kings Lynn, Norfolk. The advantages of the gear are as follows : (I) The gear is infinitely variable , and involves none of the ordinary gear--changing,which many people find difficult. (2) The whole process can be made automatic,or controllable at will. (3) The drive is not frictional.Hence there is no loss of energy by conversion into heat,as in many types of frictional gear, and frictional torque-converters. (4) With the present invention, wear on the free-wheels is reduced to a minimum,as there is no wear on the free-wheels(if of the roller-bearing type),when in top gear. (5) If the automatic control is incorporated, the gear will possibly cost more than a standard gear, but against this must be put the saving effected by dispensing with a clutch. IO - 9 - 34 .
