Contd. -2- EFC3/T3. 7.24. The second of these two defects is the fact that in this particular battery the stoppers are rather tight, and it was difficult for them to be turned round, when inserted, into the correct position. Therefore the proper vent holes would not be uncovered and the acid would come up through the vents owing to the gas lock in the cell. Although this Exide stopper feature is all right in principle, we very much doubt whether it is understood by customers, and we are sure that in a great many cases the stoppers are not properly replaced and therefore trouble results. We do think that some improvement is necessary in order to make it more certain that the principle works out correctly, even though not appreciated by the customer. We suggest that the points mentioned herein and in the accompanying report should be put before the Exide Co. for their consideration. We think the above will sufficiently explain the necessity, real or apparent, of frequent topping up. EFC. | ||
