32-EX. PHANTOM III.
Hardy Spicer Propellor Shaft.

Replying to your remarks in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}I4.AP. 14.7.37., our only reports on vibration have been :-

July 6th. "Free from periods. General vibration felt "at high speeds through gear lever, but "would not otherwise be noticed."

July 8th. "Vibration noticed through gear lever seems "slightly worse."

If the propellor shaft vibrations were bad or worse than with the standard propellor shaft, we would say so, but they are not and there is no cause for alarm. It is only through the gear lever they can be detected at all. We attribute the slight increase in vibration to the buffeting the shaft gets against the cross member, but cannot prove it.

It is the fact that the vibration can be felt on the gear lever, when otherwise it could not be detected that we wish to impress on those who read the Daily Reports. We tried on 35-EX. to impress this, but GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} told us to keep away from the gear lever, but now we have the overdrive, we've got to touch it if we want to change gear.
