X. 4335 By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} for Mr. Walker, D.C. c. to E.F.C. EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 6/H23.5.23. re. 20-HP Electrical System failure. The following is a point raised by Mr. Wyer which I considered required your consideration:- "It does not appear generally known that when running these cars on magneto ignition (without a battery) which is often done, if the charging switch is put on and left on, that one will scrap the coil or ballast resistance in a very short time, also damage lamp bulbs if in use. The battery ignition may have failed due to battery or its connections, and then one would change over to magneto and perhaps leave the switch on, and possibly damage the coil etc. beyond repair. A word or two in the instruction book (if not already in) might save such trouble. Perhaps a resistance supplied and fitted in the field circuit would enable one to use lamps to get home." EP. {G.
