-12- (16) We next made some experiments to see if we could prevent jaggers on N.Sch.4798. First we reduced the inertia of the rotating parts as in experiment (14). This change did not have a marked effect; judders still occurred in both directions. (16) FRONT OF CAR (17) It was suggested that one of the reasons for the success of scheme Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}106 might be its low mechanical efficiency, and that the N.Scheme might not judder if equally inefficient. To see if this was so, we built up the N.Scheme with dry Ferodo bushes as the toggle shaft bearings instead of oiled brass bushes. This did make it a little harder to obtain judders, but the difference was not marked. | ||
