E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG29.9.23. ORIGINAL 6.EX CAR ENGINE SUSPENSION. x4604 We are sending to you the necessary parts for locking up the front of 6.EX car engine suspension. We found that in order to be certain the engine was locked, it was necessary to thread 4 spherical washers on to the tie-rod. The way we should recommend you should do this is as follows :- Place a jack on the front end of the engine and lift sufficiently to be sure that the engine load is taken off the suspension. N.S. bonnet strip must be removed. Bolts through jaws on suspension tie rod should be taken out and lock nuts holding jaws undone. Remove the bolt which attaches the N.S. bell crank lever to the frame - this will enable the tie rod to be drawn sufficiently out to unscrew the jaw off the O.S. also - take the lock nut off and put on the two spherical washers. The same operation should then be done on the other side. Care should be taken when locking up the engine, that the engine is not forced out of line by tightening up.
