BY3/G27817, Contd. -2- 25th August, 1917. represent, generally speaking, the minor improvements which Mr. Royce has called for. In each case the alteration comes under the heading "D" and therefore no scrap will be made in introducing the parts in question. With reference to the question of costs not being filled in on the alteration sheets, we have attempted to get this done but owing to the very greatly increased amount of work in the General Office, we cannot obtain the prices in ques-tion unless we allow the sheets for standardisation to remain there for weeks together. So far as I can see it is not the fault of the department, but it is simply due to the fact that they have already more work than they can actually cope with. As a matter of fact, the question of the value of the material likely to be scrapped is considered by myself at the time the alteration is proposed, and this value has a direct relation to whether the piece should be put in under "C" heading or "D" heading. I think the above information will cover your require-ments. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
