W/P. [strikethrough] To Sr. [strikethrough] from By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} [strikethrough] c. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} [strikethrough] 174S By.2/MH.{M. Huckerby}27.7.38. 3 1/2-LITRE BENTLEY CHASSIS IN FRANCE. RE FITTING OF LARGE CAPACITY OIL PUMPS. Referring to Sr/VAI/GM.25.7.38, we note that you have been successful in obtaining payment for the fitting of the large oil pumps on the following chassis:- B.34.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} - Dr. Flesch. B.73.EJ - Mr. de Braux. B.118.CR{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester} - Mr. Strauss. B.19.DK - Mr. Ferenczi. B.28.DG - Mr. Sert. In the case of the following chassis:- B.33.CW - Mr. Lacombe B.171.DK - Mr. Lecoultre we agree that it is policy to face the charge ourselves. In regard to the 8 3 1/2-litre cars which are permanently situated in France and are fitted with white metal bearings, but are out of guarantee, I am in agreement that you should write the owners and inform them that we are prepared to fit a large oil pump which normally costs 1,750 frs. for the sum of 750 frs., and that it is desirable in their own interests from the point of view of increased life and reliability, that they take advantage of the offer. In regard to the remaining 3 3 1/2-litre cars which are still in guarantee, it would be worth while writing the owners in a similar way, but if we cannot obtain their agreement to pay 750 frs. it would be good policy on our part to fit the pumps to ensure prevention of trouble.
