Jan. 29th. 1926. Messrs Barker & Co. Ltd. Olaf Street, Shepherds Bush. W. Dear Sirs, We have asked our sales dept. to arrange to purchase from you body No.SD.4782A. Torpedo for Short Chassis "D" Type steering. The steering is not the standard "D"Type but is a special steering to suit the driver. We discussed the modifications necessary with your Mr. Honeyset on Monday last, and regret that owing to the writer's illness we have been delayed in giving you information to enable you to carry on. As the body has in any case to have a new scuttle to accommodate the standard 36in. wide dash, there is no difficulty in lengthening the scuttle approx. 1.500in. It will be necessary to build the back squab of the driving seat 4.000in. further forward than originally intended and the seat cushion will have to move a corresponding amount. The squab might be dealt with by the use of a permanent packing. The door entrance s will be restricted by the moving of the seat cushion but we must put up with this. The screen, which should be of the standard three piece type, is put onto the scuttle so that the wheel has 2.500in. of clearance between itself and the screen. It will be necessary to push the instrument board up into the scuttle in order to clear the driver's knees. We will send you shortly a sketch of the shape of the board, which should be polished but have no holes for the instruments which we will fit ourselves. The sketch which we enclose herewith shews all the information which you will require (EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}S.10.). We wish you to supply the body upholstered in black leather and finished in Works Grey. As we shall be unable to let you have the chassis we wish you to send the body together with a set of standard New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I wings to our works for mounting under the writer's supervision. We know you do not like this idea but we assure you that this body will not be used for any serious tests. All the bodies for the purpose of such work the writer always endeavours to let you mount. We understand that you will be able to let us have delivery of the body in the condition stated in ten days time or in two weeks at the outside.
