DAMPERS ON PHANTOM. The Expl. Dept. have pointed out (HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /LES4/KT5433.) that removal of the rear damper on the offside of the car necessitates the removal of the battery box. We have looked into this and have concluded that the trouble arises owing to the provision by us of retaining pieces for the bolts. If the bolts could be removed there does not seem to be any difficulty in removing the damper. We illustrate this on N. sch. 3676. herewith. We suggest that the bolts are not retained but are only prevented from turning. It appears to us to be worth while to prevent the bolts from turning but experience on the job may indicate that even this is not necessary. We also note that when the modifications shown on N. sch. 3660. are introduced the damper will not go in the frame unless it is tilted. Tilting to the extent we shew appears to make only an insignificant increase in the air trapped in the cylinder. HDY. {William Hardy} [STAMP: SH 18 APR 1933] [STAMP: RECEIVED] | ||
