Summary report on firing tests for a Port Gun and a Starboard Gun, detailing performance, stoppages, and servicing.

The following is a summary of the firings, most of which were carried out in the air with the plane diving to simulate an attack on a ground target.

Port Gun, 12051, R.H.

Rounds fired - 1,006.

Practice ammunition - 766; Armour piercing ammunition - 240.
Air firing - 905; Ground firing - 101.

Stoppages.

Broken sear after 833 rounds.
Misfires after 879, 881, 882 rounds due to unfilled ammunition.

Accuracy. - Very good.

100% group at 500 yds. - 22 ins. dia. before; 18 ins. dia. after.

Replacements due to breakage. - 1 Firing sear.

Servicing. - Nil except for cleaning breech block and topping up air pressure every three days.

Starboard Gun, 12054, L.H.

Rounds fired - 1,008

Practice ammunition - 765; Armour piercing ammunition - 243.
Air firing - 908; Ground firing - 100.

Stoppages.

Striker spring retaining claw slipping - after 77, 434, 437, 495 rounds.
Misfires due faulty ammunition - " 861, 871 "
Premature fires - " 57, 376 "
Hand extraction due to faulty ammunition - " 357, 843 "
Misfeeds - " 499, 918, 920, 923, 944, 956, 963, 980."
Broken extractor - " 310, 664, 706, 800 "
Broken sear - " 544, 553 "
Broken front slide - " 818 "
