1332 DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS,PHONE,BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: ERDINGTON 2121 (P.B.X) EXTENSION No. 395. YOUR REF: OUR REF: HEP/BMT.995. FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. For the attention of S.H.Grylls, Esq. 22nd. December, 1936. (Dict. 21st.) Dear Sirs, Referring to our letter of the 15th. (HEP/BMT.886), we have received a further communication from France in which we are advised that the matter under review has been located and the official who dealt with Mr. Sleator was confused by the fact that the wheel on which the 6.00-18 tyre was asked to be fitted had a 4.00x17 rim. Not knowing the circumstances surrounding this request, and bearing in mind present standardisation recommendations, it was suggested that the 7.00-17 tyre should be used, and that the 6.00-17 was too small for a 4.00x17 rim. I hope that this will satisfactorily explain the position, and would further confirm that we were not aware of the purpose for which the tyre was required, as we only had a bare wheel submitted for fitment. In the event of your deciding to standardise the 6.00-17 tyres on 4.00x17 rims, we confirm that we would not raise an objection. Yours faithfully, FOR THE DUNLOP RUBBER CO.LTD.
