The performance of new machines, their silence compared to Watford and Lucas magnetos, and potential cost savings.

| -3- Apparently they have not adopted our suggestion of making the cam very much easier at the make in order to let the points make more gently and avoid bouncing and arcing. Silence. These machines are found to be as silent on the bench as any Watford magnetos we have had; their silence is comparable with that of the Lucas machines we have tested and it may therefore be inferred that they will be satisfactory on cars. A further report on the preliminary running of these machines on cars will be issued in due course. The tangential force required to advance and retard the contact breaker cam ring is 2.0 lbs.wt. which satisfies our limit. General Remarks. These machines appear to be more normal than the first machine reported upon in our EFC1/T13.6.27. They may be said to satisfy our Specification of requirements in all respects. It remains only to obtain a satisfactory extended running test on cars. We understand that these machines are to be supplied to us at a considerably reduced cost as compared with the present standard sleeve type, resulting, we understand, in a saving amounting to over £1500 a year.
