Chief Chemist,
Messrs. Ferodo Ltd.,
Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Dear Mr. Longley,

With regard to your request that we should not send you official orders for small quantities of purely experimental brake linings, owing to the complications in clerical work which arise, there are only two ways in which this could be done owing to our system here: the first is that we should send you an official order marked "not to be charged for", of which you need take no notice, but which would enable us to book the material in, in the normal way, the second is that I should send for or fetch the samples by car. This latter scheme would work satisfactorily so long as you did not inadvertently send the bill in, which you have done in similar cases in the past.

Will you let me know which system to adopt in the case of the VG.90 servo discs.

We have not yet received the various samples of linings sent back for re-drilling.

I am making a rig for arriving at μ speed curves, and I have persuaded one of your competitors to work with me in this piece of research.

Yours truly,
