1128 ? Experimental Department. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}10/JMS. 1.5.40. Messrs. Lucas, Great King Street, BIRMINGHAM. For the attention of Mr. B. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} CRUPPER. Dear Sirs, We require a Starter motor for a marine engine, and we wondered if you had a suitable one to offer. We have attached an outline drawing to enable you to understand the limitations and room available. Since there will be quite a large amount of oil spray around the driving pinion, a cork or rubber clutch for the drive seems out of the question, and we shall have to resort to a plain Bendix type or use a manuel shift type. An important feature on a boat is the provision of a device for freeing the drive quickly in the event of it becoming stuck. Also, the motor will have to be arranged for double pole wiring. The running torque will be about 120 lb.ins. on the arm shaft. We shall be very grateful for your comments on the above. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
