Second SpectreCodename for Phantom III Body Mounting.

In connection with the mounting of the body on the second SpectreCodename for Phantom III chassis, we propose to incorporate a number of improvements.

We are not satisfied with the way in which the body mounting is behaving on the first SpectreCodename for Phantom III, and moreover we think our methods of mounting bodies generally require some modification.

On the second SpectreCodename for Phantom III chassis we have already added a further bracket on each side of the chassis opposite the strong point formed by the rear end of the cross. We now propose adding two further similar brackets opposite the strong points formed by the third crossmember. In addition to these we are adding brackets to the front ends of the scuttle to secure the scuttle laterally to the frame and make more rigid these flexible portions which cannot be strengthened very much by the scuttle armature, also similar added brackets to steady the tail from the rear dumb irons where facings were provided originally for carrying the rear bumper.

To anchor the rear end of the body rigidly to the chassis transversely we are connecting the strongest portion of the rear of the body, namely, the ply-board and crossmember behind the rear seat squabs with a suitable double triangulation anchored to the second crossmember. In all, we propose to increase the number of points of attachment from 10 to 19 between the chassis frame and the body, and the additional brackets so provided are all added in places where there is a junction with crossmembers, and these added points should therefore be of greater value in reinforcing the attachment between body work and frame.
