We have 27-EX. car running fitted with the gearbox with Epicyclic 3rd. The arrangement works very well. The change gear can be made by operating the small lever on the controls without operating the clutch or touching the accelerator pedal. The only trouble we have at the moment is that the automatic adjustment for the brake does not operate properly, and on two occasions due to this it has slipped. There should not be much difficulty in getting this right. Firstly, we are using Cotton-duck on the band brake which we do not think is the most suitable material. We are arranging to use a similar material to that used on the Wilson gearbox. Also, Mr. Day has given some instructions to make the adjustment liner. The Epicyclic third gear is not very quiet. It is not as good as our best Helical Synchro-mesh, but so far no special attention has been given to get these gears quiet. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
