It is clear from evidence that flame speed passes through a maximum when half the volume of the charge has been burned, and as the pressure does not reach a maximum till the end of combustion, the flame speed cannot be proportional to pressure alone. "reaction velocity" is admittedly proportional to the temperature or to some power of the pressure, but in addition to this, the rate of expansion of the combustion products must be taken into account (See appendix).
