Against this Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst points out that the plug he is now recommending is the K.L.G.V7/3 type plug, which he considers - according to tests made - more suitable to deal with this trouble than the V9 type. He explains, however, that the approval of this new plug is now in the hands of Mr. Emtage of the Air Ministry. Possibly you might be able to get a move on the approval of this type of plug, and point this out to the Coastal Area.

In the meantime we should be glad if you could arrange for one or two of the faulty plugs referred to to be returned to us, so that we can hand same to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst for his further inspection and report.

From reports we have received from Hunt at Gosport and Lee-on-Solent it does not appear that this is a general trouble, and we rather gather from him that, generally speaking, the engines are not run under idling conditions so much as appears to have been done with the engine above referred to. It must be appreciated, however, that for Fleet Air Arm service this condition of running must be catered for.

In view of the point now being taken up by the Coastal Area we are asking Hunt for further information on this matter.

We suggest that if continued trouble on "Osprey", a set of K.L.G. V7/3 plugs might be tried out and comparative results reported. We are pushing Hunt to recommend this at Gosport.
