Dear Sirs,

Re Toughened Glass.

We believe that it has been intended to fit Toughened Glass in S.B.4. and 30.EX. In view of recent experiments of which I have received a report, as follows:-

"It will be recalled that samples of Toughened Glass, on being struck with force, disintegrated in numerous small blunt pieces.

"Unfortunately, Mr. Evans' tests disclosed that this disintegration does not take place when the glass is held in a frame as it is when used in a windscreen.

"When in a frame and the glass is struck, it cracks up into numerous small pieces of the usual size, but the small pieces stay in position, with the result that the screen becomes opaque, which might prove highly dangerous at speed, and makes it highly unsuitable for car screens."

we would be glad if you would use no more of the glass on cars for experimental use, and particularly for those mentioned above.

Yours faithfully,
For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
