Reverse Gears on 20/25 HP. and P.II.

As mentioned to Sir Henry this afternoon on the telephone, we are sending you herewith a scheme showing the proposed modification to the 20/25 HP. gearbox to render the change down into 1st gear independent of the reverse.

This scheme has been set out in BY's department, and shows the long shaft type of reverse arranged with a view to avoiding the trouble of coming out of mesh.

A central bearing with solid bush has been shown with a view to avoiding deflection in the shaft arising from the position of the driven wheel, and RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} is of the opinion that there will be no difficulty in getting the three bearings into line.

If the central bearing is dispensed with the scheme as shown can be rigged up on an existing gearbox, the end covers only being modified.

[STAMPED: RECEIVED 18 JUN 1932]

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

Blueprint GL.{G. Linnett}578 herewith.
