We are modifying the apparatus so that it can be applied to a standard engine with normal compression. We thought at first it might be difficult to measure the amount of leakage with normal compression, but now we have seen what this amounts to, we think this can easily be done.

We are hoping that this apparatus will enable us to quickly make comparative tests between rings, pistons and clearances etc.

Since writing the above, we find there is a very excellent report on Piston temperatures by Prof. A.H.Gibson in Proceedings No.2 1926 Mechanical Engineers. This report also give temperatures of steel liners in alum. cyls. We believe they were taken on a Hispano engine. If you have not a copy of this report we can send you one.
