sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Y8380 X7772 ? BY1/G.20.4.29. REPORT ON CHASSIS ALTERATION NO. 9 - FRAME SECTION 7000 etc ALTERATION TO FRAME ETC. CHASSIS 2501: Referring to OY's letter of the 25th February (ref. OY.4) I have gone carefully over the blueprints submitted with the report covering alteration No.9, and have carefully compared the proposals with our present Phantom and SS.{S. Smith} Since the Americans inevitably fit bumpers I cannot see that we can take exception to this particular point viz, the fitting of the bumpers and the position in which they are arranged, as if a bumper is provided which obviously should be at a standard height, and under such circumstances it would make little difference whether the bumper were carried directly on the horn or dumb iron, or if a special bracket were fitted higher up on the frame but arranged so the bumper came in the correct position, the circumstances would be much the same in the frame finally. Of the two schemes I would prefer to one which America are putting forward. With reference to the frame heights, here again they are still somewhat higher than our present Phantom, and with regard to the position of the joggle or 'kick-up' as they call it, this again would not affect the strength, and would give them some slight gain by brining the higher portion of the frame farther forward and in a better position for coachbuilders work. Regarding the question of the overall length of the car, this again is one which we cannot comment very much upon providing it is kept within reason, as the crowded condition of the motor traffic in many American cities undoubtedly demands a shorter car, and this should not affect the general appearance providing they do not attempt to give too great accommodation. TRUNK RACK. This we see no objection to. With reference to the covers or splashers, front and rear, personally I should consider them an objection, as they will tend to increase drumming noises. DASHBOARD. With reference to the dashboard, we see no objection to their proposals. We return your copy of OY's alteration report herewith. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
