Referring to H1.2/RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}9.12.37. I had discussed this matter with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/JWW. and dies are being made to test out whether a solid bearing of lesser diameter, the correct dimensions to give the optimum results being part of the experiment, will produce better bearings from the point of view of sounder material than the present tubular form. It is clear from Mr. Talbot's investigations that the tubular form uses the worst portion of the casting to produce the bearing, and it is important therefore that we should as quickly as possible carry out the necessary experimental work, to enable us to improve the condition of the material round which the bearing is finally produced.
