feature) is more often than not a cure for hard low speed riding. The advantages of this should be pointed out to owners of cars who have complaints of this nature. This also applies to complaints of spring squeaks for which it is a cure.

We have reason to believe that on this chassis a considerable number of complaints can be traced to faulty spring lubrication; this point was at one time unsatisfactory and has been remedied once by altering the felt in the spring gaiters and later by grooved and Bijur lubricated springs.

It would appear advisable for Rd. to issue a Depot Sheet to deal with the cars involved, i.e. all cars prior to the first improvement.

In the somewhat rare case of persistent recurrence of complaints after the springs have been lubricated, spring grooving and lubrication should be fitted.

If spring strengths and lubrication are correct, cures can only be effected by alteration to shock damper loads or by drilling the valves, with particular reference to the complaint.

Future improvements in 25 HP. suspension include investigations with lower rating springs in conjunction with shock damper loading (or valve drilling).

PHANTOM 1 CARS.

This is a particularly bad chassis for the complaint of hard low speed riding (20 to 30 M.P.H.). The cause is in the majority of cases due to poor spring lubrication. Grooved and lubricated springs are the cure, and the advantages of this should be pointed out to customers.
