Cox, Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., 14-15, Conduit Street, W. 1. Dear Cox, With reference to your telephone message regarding the 40 Series BUICK, which Rolls-Royce have enquired about, the position is as follows:- It is the latest type from the Factory as far as we know or are concerned and is identical with the one your people tried some time ago. The only improvements or alterations we are advised of will take place at the beginning of next year and that is an alteration in the carburettor - A Stromberg carburettor will be fitted in place of the present one and I believe that the trim will also be somewhat improved. We are not, however, in the position to give delivery of one of these cars until well into next year. As I think I have made it plain to you we do not market this 40 Series in this country at the present moment for the reason that all our present models are manufactured by General Motors of Canada in Canada and qualify for Empire Content; whereas the 40 Series does not qualify and is made in the American Factory and until they are able to make this series qualify I do not intend to place same on the market here, for the obvious reason I cannot have some American BUICK cars and some Canadian. Consequently I am only importing a limited number of these 40 Series which we are doing for the same reason as your people - to find out the latest improvements and the adaptability of this model for the British market. -1- ALL CORRESPONDENCE REGARDING SPARE PARTS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO THE WORKS.
