Dear Manning,

Very many thanks for the loan of the Packard Car. It suited our purpose admirably, and the test was entirely successful in that the engine did not break. I hope you managed to get it back safely from Notting Hill to Cricklewood.

As I told you on the telephone, we found a broken nut in the nearside front brake drum had jammed the brakes hard on. If therefore you ever do sell this car to anyone I should make sure that the same failure has not occurred in the rear nearside drum. We freed this brake by slacking the adjustment right off but did not remove the drum.

Please do not think I am "looking a gift horse in the mouth". We found out everything we wanted from this car, and I thought you might like to know of these snags.

Remember that you are bringing up a 90 miles an hour Ford when you can get hold of one.

Yours sincerely,
