To LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EF. c. to EJ. X1087 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG20.1.23. 7-GOSHAWK-11 - MAYTHORN SALOON. X3730 X1087 We sent for 7-Goshawk-11 (Maythorn Saloon) from Messrs. Maythorn, Biggleswade yesterday. They have had it for nearly three weeks to make the necessary alterations to the body. We were surprised to find that the alterations to the front seats (instructed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} in Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/M29.1.22 - copy of which you received) have not been carried out. As far as we can see, the only alterations made to the front seats are that the back of the passenger seat has been made so that it holds down and that the runners for the seats have been changed. We agree that this makes a very great improvement as regards the convenience for getting in and out of the back seats, but nothing has been done in order to overcome Mr. Royce's complaints of the front seats being too long, too soft and flexible, and too high at the back. You will see by his memo. that sketches were given as to what size these seats should be. We think the wind-screen is now satisfactory. We should like to know why it was that the alterations to the front seats were not carried out in the manner instructed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} because it will be necessary for us to have some explanation to give to R.{Sir Henry Royce} the next time he sees this car. If it is a question of over-sight, then I am afraid we shall have to get the alterations made locally to suit our convenience because we cannot possibly spare the car again at the present time.
