It is proposed that the scheme of tests to be carried out on these alloys, shall include -

(a) Stanton Impact Tests. X.2746
(b) Upton-Lewis Fatigue Tests. X.3040
(c) Tensile Tests at atmospheric temperatures X.3039.
(d) Tensile Tests at various temperatures up to the maximum temperature obtained by the pistons. X.3039
(e) Specific Gravity and Brinell Hardness Tests X.3041

(a) With reference to the Stanton Impact Tests we already have results of this kind for numbers 1, 3, 4, 5 & 6, therefore will the C.C. please instruct the Works to produce Stanton Test pieces from numbers 2, 7, & 8 above. There should be 3 test bars of each kind which should be 7" long by 5/8" diameter, in the rough, and the drop of the hammer for the test of these pieces should be .312".

(b) With reference to the Upton-Lewis Fatigue Tests, 3 rectangular pieces in each of the 8 above alloys should be produced which should be 11" by 1 1/8" by 1/2" in the rough. These should be machined down to 10" by 1" by 1/2" and comparative tests of these pieces made against one another under the same conditions on the Upton-Lewis machine.

(c) (d) With regard to the Tensile Test pieces, there should be 3 off each alloy, each of which should be 21" long by 1" diameter in the rough. These should be turned into 6 test pieces each alloy, to the following sketch:-

- Overall length sections: 2", 1.500", 3.000", 1.500", 2"
- Diameter sections: .600 dia, .564 dia, .600 dia
- Left end annotation: 3/4" WR 4
- Right end annotation: 3/4" Whitworth

and handed over to Mr. Hall for test.
