Servo.

With regard to the ball bearing between the shaft in the gearbox for the servo drive and the servo, we should like to know whether, with the flexible plate servo, we can dispense with the special bearing with extra endwise freedom, which we use, and revert to a standard type bearing.

It seems to us that it would be worth while to repeat the investigations of this feature in order that we may if possible save the extra cost of a special bearing and the difficulty with deliveries.

If the servo spindle is a free fit in the bearing when new, we do not see why it should not remain free except for the possibility of corrosion.

We have enquired about this from the Repair Department, and are informed that there is never any sign of rust.
