COPY Hotel L'ouest, Laval, France. 6.4.22. RP. from NY. S-BOMBLANC-11. On April 4th. the car covered 116 miles only as we were in garage ex-amining steering etc. On April 5th. 343 miles were covered. The total mileage to date since leaving Derby is 3587. As I have already written, we are attempting 350 miles per day but this cannot be done every day as time is taken in carrying our examination of parts, lubrication etc. Also the weather prevents it on certain days. The weather on the whole has been bad since we have been here. I have made a rough calculation and find that the petrol consumption is working out at an average of just under 20 M.P.G. which under the circumstances is very good. The oil consumption is about 1200 to 1300 miles per gallon. Yesterday the engine went remarkably well and the carburation seemed better. I think the petrol varies a great deal and we have to take many different brands. On yesterdays running there seems little to be desired on the power unit. I suspect that some of our carburation troubles have been due to bad petrol, dirt and water and I believe now that the system is getting cleaner, the results will be better. This report rather confirms that the continual choking up of the filter may have been due to the original dirty condition of the petrol system, including the tank, which we recommend should be thoroughly cleaned out and a fresh start made. We carried this out in connection with 6-B-11 which is crossing over to France today to go to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence as instructed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} contd:- | ||
