PROPELLER SHAFT DAMPER ON THE BENTLEY

We have now had half a dozen cases where we have made the Bentley into a much nicer car by fitting a propeller shaft damper. Not only does this eliminate axle groans on the over-run, but definitely eliminates rattles in the transmission when the clutch is engaged. B.4.GA. was an excellent example of the clutch being blamed for the transmission.

We have now come to the conclusion that the additional weight and cost of the propeller shaft damper is well worthwhile, and we should therefore like to reintroduce it on the Bentley as soon as it can be brought in without scrap. At the same time, we have two schemes in hand to reduce the cost of this device and lighten it both of which will be available for testing on 6.B.4. during the next 15,000 miles test.
