Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}9/H18140. 18th January 1940 Dear Falconer, re Body Costs. You will remember that in connection with the B.V. body type of body, it was decided to spend £6,000 or £8,000 on tools with a view to effecting a substantial reduction in body costs as compared with what had been achieved in the past. We are anxious to have information as to what is the cost of the B.V. body to the specification to which the 6 are now being made, assuming that bodies were turned out in quantities of 10 per week and using of course the tools already purchased; other equipment to be as existing at Park Ward's and the figures to be based on the assumption that the tool cost would be absorbed over 1,000 bodies. We want to see in particular how this compares with the cost of the last batch of B.II bodies that we're made. We also want the following information: 1 What reduction in the price could be brought about by accepting a material specification similar to that of the Rover or Jaguar. 2 Separately what additional reductioncould be achieved by using up-to-date painting and drying equipment, power driven hand tools and modern arc or spot welding tackle. 3 Also could any reductions be achieved by ignoring the limitations with regard to layout of the present factory. | ||
