CHATEAUROUX. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux}/4/JAB.13.7.37. To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} ~~c.c. Mr Chandler.~~ ~~c.c. Mr Cover.~~ 32-EX. PHANTOM III. Clutch. We have acted on your request for a daily period devoted to clutch testing. The clutch has occasionally become extremely hot in the course of these tests, possibly hotter than an owner would ever get it. At such times it has slipped on take-up owing to the withdrawal mechanism tightening up and preventing complete engagement until the pedal was pulled up. It becomes quite free again after cooling for only a minute or two. As it never occurs with ordinary use and recovers so quickly we do not at present think we should find anything if we dismantled the withdrawal mechanism, but we will look out for any developments and would also appreciate any suggestions you could make.
