Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter dated April 6th.

We are sorry that the telephone was too indistinct this morning for conversation.

We are very surprised to hear of the trouble which you have had as we have now supplied upwards of eighteen thousand thermostats and they have been practically trouble-free.

One of the early causes of trouble was the steel particles which you mention, but since special precautions have been taken there has been no repetition of this trouble. In all, the troubles due to this cause were confined to less than half a dozen thermostats.

From your description of the permanent set in the stationary contact it sounds as though the thermostats are of a relatively early model, and we are therefore sending you with this letter one instrument of the latest type, in which you will see that the stationary blade is spring-held against the head of the adjusting screw. This instrument is sent for your examination only and is not tested or set.

We are to-morrow sending you two thermostats with the standard setting to replace those with which you have had trouble, and shall be obliged if you will carry
