OBJECT OF TEST.
To observe difference in performance of 20 HP. with various brands of petrol.
TESTER.
A.{Mr Adams} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Lidsey.
CONDITIONS.
Road tests all taken on the same day to ensure similar conditions.
SUMMARY OF TEST.
These tests were made because of the statements in EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}9/H15.10.23 We consider these tests prove that if the best is made of the present car it will perform satisfactorily on standard brands of petrol. We agree that there will be slight differences in performance according to the quality of the fuel as one would expect. The reason we changed the fuel on the 10,000 miles 20 HP. car from Shell Mex to Red Line, was because of detonation. We cannot control the particular quality of a fuel to detonate. The standard fuel we use in the Expl: Dept: is Shell Mex or Shell No.2. This fuel is particularly bad for detonation but we use it because it shows up faults in carburation and starting.
