We have got a square end on this undershield, and the dirt hits this and is forced upwards through the louvre. We would suggest that this louvre be carried closer to undershield. We also think that it would be better to round the front end of undershield, instead of, at present, a square end. This would allow the dirt to get away more readily than at present being piled up in the top corner. The gearbox undershield protects the gearbox O.K.

Radiator to L.O.P. F.{Mr Friese} 53380
This is O.K. Radiator shutter and controls to L.O.P. F.{Mr Friese} 53390 - these have worked satisfactorily.

Dashboard and brackets.
D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} type dashboard F.52657, otherwise to L.O.P. F.{Mr Friese} 53341 - all supporting bolts to brackets worked loose, also bolts loose holding scuttle. We have tightened all these up.

Steering Column and box.
New stiffness support tube to Drgs. F.53250/1/2/3/4, otherwise to L.O.P. F.{Mr Friese} 5341. Steering column support bracket on dash - all bolts worked loose. These have been tightened up. Steering box support on frame - both bolts worked loose. These have been thoroughly tightened up. Steering at slow speeds - light - wobbles on uneven surface of road. At high speeds on good road, steering feels slightly unstayable. On rough roads shocks are felt on steering wheel, but are not to be compared with the shocks received from the R.A.C. steering wheel.

Front Axle to L.O.P. G.51820.
Friction of pivots modified to N. Sch. 1996. Lean of pivots 0.375" back. Pivots and bearings seen quite O.K. Brake operating shafts G.5182 - fair amount of slack in bearings. Brake drums and shoes in good condition. Slight slack in cross steering tube ball end joints. These have been tightened up. [Text is struck through: Front O.S. brake bearing hard on toe of lapping shoe.] This will have caused steering to pull to O.S. that we reported. We have eased the shoe slightly. N.S.F. hub centre serrations jammed owing to the plating peeling. We have made this O.K. Shafts and bearings in axle operating brakes in good condition. Front shock absorbers checked. Poundage of R.S. 22 - O.S. 18 lbs. These have been reset. Connecting links - slight play at ball ends, readjusted. Front springs (firths) F.53332 - 12 1/2 % stronger, 600 and 650 lbs. N.S.spring, top leaf, broke after 4,750 miles approximately. The fracture was clean. There did not appear to be any flaw in the steel. The breakage is 10" rear of centre bolt. Condition of other leaves of spring - sound. O.S.spring taken down and examined - all leaves are O.K., but we notice that the bedding of the leaves is very poor, at either end the leaves have dug in. We also notice that all the leaves are curved, which throws the bedding on the centre at one side, and on the other.
