X8793 EFC. c. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. Hoy. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED PHANTOM CHASSIS - LUCAS MAGNETO. During my recent visit to R.{Sir Henry Royce} I raised the question of what attitude he proposed to adopt towards the Lucas magneto - was he anxious to carry on with it slowly, or did he think it was a reasonable proposal that we should co-operate with the Lucas Company to perfect the magneto in question, with the object of obtaining experience, and possibly later adoption. R's attitude was that he did not agree with any attempt to utilise the Lucas magneto on a Rolls Royce product. He said he fully appreciated the fact that the Lucas Company were endeavouring to make a sound scheme, but that the reputation they had at the moment was such that we could not consider for a moment associating ourselves with the Lucas Company on a question of magnetos. R.{Sir Henry Royce} simply bore out his previous memo on the same subject, but threw this extra light on the question of "going slowly", that what he intended by "going slowly" was to let the matter die out.
