IMPROVEMENTS TO EARLY 40/50 H.P. CARS. TO DO. Steering Cross Tube. Where pistons are troublesome change to best type aluminium because these do not gall the cylinders. Try concave tops. Avoid weak valve springs by using stiffer springs. Valves act more reliably in cold and sticky engines. Abandon the use of thick gear-oil. Use also thinner engine oil, especially on cold weather. To make gear change easier, avoid thick oil and too early an effective clutch brake, is very free clutch. (use?) Oil on brakes - whenever convenient fit oil screen to permit of back axle being more out of level. Suggest looking(?) back guards over drain pipes. Be prepared to fit when requested, electrical self-starter to all types of chassis. When doing so, also fit non-trembler ignition (and bunch H.T. wires) Condenser wire on our battery ignition has been shewn by Mr. Clark to be too long. Some improvements should be made to make this ignition less troublesome if non-trembler is not adopted. Remove magneto brakes if possible by fitting new or repaired old couplings. NOT TO DO. New Camshaft - high lift. New short Connecting Rods. Not new valves. Do not fit new brake drum unless requested specially. Do not fit lower gear in back axles unless specially requested. Be prepared to alter magneto drive to fabric couplings and remove brakes if proved advantageous. Footer: R.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. | ||
