Comparative tests on a 'Colt Fan' for a Phantom II car, noting its poor performance and noise issues.

| -5- Colt Fan. Several comparative tests were carried out with the Colt Fan. This fan is claimed to give better results than our own due to its construction. It is made by rivetting shrouds over our existing fan blades; the shrouds are rivetted only at the outer ends of the blades and are supposed to vary their pitch with fan speed due to the weight of the shroud and the flexibility of our fan blades. The tests carried out however indicated that this fan is less effective than our own, 4o hotter at 30 M.P.H., 2 to 3o hotter at 60 M.P.H., 1.5o to 3o hotter at 70 M.P.H. These tests were carried out on a Phantom II car - 22-JS.{Mr Johnson's Secretary} In addition to its inefficiency the Colt fan is very noisy, the shrouds vibrate at several speeds and clatter against the fan blades.
